Gernot Rohr, Super Eagles Coach, says Victor Moses can return to the Super Eagles whenever he wants but he should be ready to work hard for a place in the team.
Rohr made the comment on the sidelines of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game between MFM FC and Rangers International FC.
“Victor Moses is a player with lots of quality but stopped playing for the National team after the World Cup. We have to respect his decision not to play again,” the coach said on Wednesday.

“if he wants to come back to the team, it is okay but he must show a lots of motivation, he must show that he is fit to play for the team because we have other players playing well in his position now.
“Moses has to be strong to come back to the team because we have more options on the wings now like Samuel Kalu, Samuel Chukwueze, Alex Iwobi and Ahmed Musa. All these players are on his wings.
“Victor Moses comeback is a good news for us.”
Rohr said he would present the fittest team in the last match of the AFCON qualifiers against Seychelles and the friendly match against Egypt.
“We will invite the fittest players for the AFCON qualifiers against Seychelles and the friendly match against Egypt. The best of them will play the match,” he said.
“With the level at which some of the players are now in their different clubs, I believe they should turn that form to the national team.
“For the local based players the ones that are good among them will surely be invited to the team. I regret that the league had a long break after the last season which affected the fitness of the players.
“But now that the league is on, myself and my assistants are here to watch out for the outstanding ones that can make the team.”

Itse Sagay, chairman of presidential advisory committee against corruption (PACAC), says former president Olusegun Obasanjo is suffering from power withdrawal syndrome. The constitutional lawyer said Obasanjo does not portray himself as a former president of the country.

Sagay said unlike his contemporaries, Obasanjo lacks respect, dignity, restraint and decorum. In reaction to Obasanjo’s latest criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari, Sagay said: “We have had a number of former heads of state, namely Gowon, Shagari, Babangida, Abubakar Salami and Jonathan. All of these have exerciseddiscretion, restraint and self-discipline in relation to their successors, but not Obasanjo.”He said Obasanjo sees himself as the president-general of Nigeria for life, hence his “meddlesome” streak.
“It strikes me as a case of one who has neverrecovered from the loss of power,” Sagay saidin a statement released on Tuesday.“By his meddlesomeness, rude and uncouth attitude towards later heads of state, it is clearthat he is addicted to a substance called ‘power’, and is angry and resentful towards any other person exercising it.“The truth is that Obasanjo has never recoveredfrom his power addiction and in his own mind, heis the President-General of Nigeria for life.“Obasanjo believes that he can break all rules and ethics but it is a crime for others to even appear to follow his footsteps in that regard.“He is a man who is not conscious of a sense of wrongdoing and is probably unaware of the long list of depredations trailing his footsteps.

“The man is not just immoral, he is worse; heis amoral, i.e., he lacks a sense of right or wrong. Obasanjo is now an old man. It is now imperative that he learns to exercise some discretion and restraint in his public statements.“His bombastic, false, misleading and destructiveoutbursts, are not befitting of a so-called Elder Stateman, even more less of a former president.”

TINNY Entertainment was undoubtedly one of the leading Record Labels in Nigeria with a handful of talented acts signed under it. The label is owned by Mr Timilehin Arokodarepopularly known as Small TINNY, the label housed amazing entertainers such as YCEE, BELLA, Dapo Tuburna, Damilare and few others.

In an E-mailed chat with the Tinny Entertainment PR, Lekan Azeez aka Calypse, he said; Last Week the front liner of the label YCEE made it publicly known, via a tweet, that he is no longer signed to the music label, in response to a fan who asked if he was still with the label.
According to the unknown PR Azeez; In truth, YCEE had terminated his contract with the label since September 2018, as well as, Bella, Dapo Tuburna and Damilare, who all terminated their contracts with the label, leaving TINNY Entertainment with no artiste to manage.

For over eighteen months, I was the label’s PR (and held the record of the longest served member of staff) I handled the label’s social media platforms, distribution and promotion of content; and trust me, in my almost two-year stay at the label, I lost count of how many staff members came and went.
There was an instance where the label’s CEO returned from the UK and sacked ten of his staff members, leaving only the gate man and myself.  One other time, a new staff member was employed on Monday and was sacked on Friday. Let’s say, Boss TINNY, as I always referred to him was a ruthless boss with high demand for excellence and little or no regard for his staff.

It’s no surprise at all that all his artistes up and terminated their contracts with him at the same time.
The artistes’ angst with the label had started long ago and only intensified in January 2018 during the YCEE Juice Concert in London. YCEE and Bella had had issues with the label’s CEO while they were all in London; and as punishment, the management had abandoned the talents in the UK, leaving them with no means to take care of themselves or even return home. I will not go into the details of how the talents were able to survive their stay in the UK.

The issue was later resolved but not too long afterwards, trouble brewed again in the camp when the label could no longer handle the management of her four artistes concurrently.
Not a day went by without a complaint from one of the artistes demanding the status of their career and their brand direction. I remember this time when Dapo Tuburna, in indignation, sent an angry mail to the label’s CEO demanding to know the way forward as regarding his music career, while pointing out that the label was not holding up their own end of the contract; stating he funds his own distribution and promotion most of the time, despite having signed to a label as prominent as TINNY Entertainment. Damilare on the other hand, never stopped complaining about how the label did not have time for him and how the distribution and promotion of his releases were not properly funded by the label. He was signed in 2017 and had only two singles and a video to show for it.

Established artistes often have a key-man clause in their contracts, which allows them to leave for another label if both parties, the label and the artiste, come to a mutual agreement to part ways. I think, that was the case with YCEE. For upcoming artistes, dropping out may be better than being stuck in a contract with a corporation that cares more about the bottom line than having the conviction to stick with artistes, even if they do not see immediate returns.

Rotimi Amaechi, director general of the reelection campaign of President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday recollected how he went into a 10-month exile in Ghana in 2006 when ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo was in power.

Narrating his experience, Amaechi tackled Obasanjo for saying President Muhammadu Buhari had returned Nigeria to the “Abacha era”.
Obasanjo said this at a press conference in Abeokuta, Ogun state, on Sunday.
But Amaechi asked Nigerians to make comparison and discover the truth.
“Honestly I had decided at the campaign rally that because there were too many speeches, I would say very little,” he said.

“But in view of what is going on in the country, I need to make one or two sentences, proceed from that to statements.
“Sometime in 2006, I was chased out of this country by a PDP-led federal government. I went into exile in Ghana. I was in Ghana for 10 months. I was expelled from the party, PDP until I became a governor. And when I became a governor, I told them I did not want to belong to PDP again. They met me and apologised and readmitted me into PDP.”
He asked Nigerians to compare the administration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to what obtains currently and decide which is closer to Abacha’s government.
“I’m comparing which one falls into an Abacha’s government and which one falls outside Abacha’s government,” he said.

“I was a governor in 2013, 2014, 2015—I had no security. A PDP-led government had chased my CSO and my ADC away. My ADC ran to London, my CSO was put in an underground cell. A major who was in my convoy was also put in underground cell. I was left without security.
“They should tell us one governor that is left without security today.”
The former governor accused the PDP of being experienced in rigging elections, citing the south-south region as example.
“PDP knows that we’re all in PDP and that in the south-south they don’t do elections. We write results, no voting,” he said.

“So which one is close to Abacha? The PDP one or the one where we’re saying people’s votes must count? The problem we have in the country is that we’re clearly showing them that it is no longer business as usual. No more rigging.
“There will be no rigging by God’s grace this time. INEC must perform its responsibility to protect our votes, so that the president that emerges will be the people’s president.”

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has asked the federal government to show proof of earned allowance payment before it ends its strike.
Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU president, said this in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, ahead of the union’s meeting with the federal government.

The union asked the federal government to immediately pay N50 billion out of the outstanding allowance as a sign of commitment to resolve the industrial strike.
On November 4, members of the union embarked on indefinite strike following government’s failure to implement the agreement reached in November 2016.
“The Nigeria’s ruling class does not see education as a priority but prefer to create new education colonies of private educational institutions which cannot meet the needs of the Nigerian children,” Ogunyemi said.

“We want them to pay immediately N50 billion as a sign of commitment this quarter and for the next three quarters government can pay N50 billion in each quarter. So, our members have rejected the N20 billion proposed by the government, which it promised to spread over two quarters in 2019.

“Our members have insisted on the release of at least N50 billion in relation to earned academic allowances which the government has an outstanding of N105 billion.
“Our members are saying that even if the government is releasing N20 billion, let it be stated clearly that it is only for ASUU members. And the balance which you promised to pay in four installments, attach timelines to the balance and figures.

“In 2017, this government promised to mainstream the earned academic allowances into the budget so that we won’t be coming to talk about arrears. If government had done that and included it into the 2018 Budget we would not be talking about arrears now.
”Our members are saying government should take steps to mainstream it into the 2019 budget and that is not late because the National Assembly and executives are still working on the budget.”

An Abuja federal high court has barred the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting or detaining Femi Fani-Kayode and Yinka Odumakin.
Fani-Kayode, former minister of aviation and Odumakin, spokesman of Afenifere, had filed a N20 million suit against the commission over their claim that the commission was plotting to arrest Walter Onnoghen, chief justice of Nigeria (CJN).

EFCC had denied the allegation and threatened them with a suit. The commission also invited them for questioning.
The duo had gone to the court to prevent their arrest.

In his ruling on Monday, John Tsoho, the presiding judge, asked the EFCC to stay action pending the determination of the application on notice.
Chukwuma Machukwu-Ume, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), filed an ex parte application on behalf of the duo, informing the court that they had gone into hiding due to the threat by the anti-graft agency to arrest them.

“The spokesman of the EFCC, Mr Tony Orilade, was alleged to have made the threat to arrest them publicly at a conference where he represented the EFCC chairman,” Machukwu-Ume said.
“He said they are doing everything possible to arrest these two gentlemen just for speaking their minds.

“The EFCC is established to pursue corruption and not comments made by Nigerians, expressing themselves.”
The judge said he was satisfied that the duo have made out a case for the court’s intervention and adjourned the matter till February 4.
“Accordingly, the respondents are restrained from either arresting or detaining the applicants on grounds of the applicants’ public statements pending the determination of the application on notice,” Tsoho said.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has declared that it would be demeaning for President Muhammadu Buhari to engage Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in a debate on the same stage.
Addressing a press conference Sunday evening in Abuja, APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, stated that debate is meant for those that are seeking power.
The spokesman disclosed that Buhari was already engaging with the public through several other platforms which are considered more important and meet APC’s interest.
He said: “The president doesn’t have to give any reason at all for not attending that debate. The debate is just one of the several platforms that are available for our candidate to engage with the public, we cannot exhaust all the platforms. So we pick the platforms that are most impactful and we are the ones in the position to determine which platform we want to use.
“To debate with who? That is an insult, that the president will come debate with who? The debate the president is having is what he did that morning in Niger state. The people of Niger state can look forward to a brighter future. The people of this country, everywhere they go can see development, they can see projects going on. So these are the debates that the president is already engaging with public.
“So, that particular debate may be important and I think it is important to people who are seeking power, not for somebody who has a lot speaking for him already. So, for us in APC, the debate as a fantastic idea it is, it is just one of the several options for our own candidate to engage with the public. There are many platforms we have used, there are many platforms we are still going to use and there are many we may not use. It is up to us to chose the platforms that will serve own interests.
“Don’t forget, just few days before this debate came, the president was live for two hours with Nigerians discussing his projects. Beside him was the Vice President of this country, talking about his projects and having very important debate over those policies and projects with Nigerians, with people having unfettered access and opportunity to make calls to him, to seek clarifications and ask questions. That for us is what our candidate needs. That for us is more important.
“That gives us the opportunity to say we are different. We are not in the same class with Atiku and the PDP to come share the same stage with people who ruined this country. To talk about what?
“The same people who started several projects and they became conduit pipes and the APC government has come in, fixing all these projects one after the other. The same party complaining about the fact that we are completing projects. Is that the party you want us to stand on the same stage to debate with. Don’t take Nigerians for granted. We are not in the same class.”

Atiku said this while reacting to a statement made by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday.
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has said that President Buhari is not in control of his government because a cabal has since seized the mantle from him.

Atiku said this while reacting to a statement made by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday, January 16, 2019.
Speaking on the incident involving the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen, at a conference organised by the Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN) in Abuja, Osinbajo said that Buhari knew nothing
about the petition against the top law officer until when it was made public.
Buhari is not capable
In his reaction, Atiku said that the Vice-President’s statement proves that the President is not capable of leading the country.
The PDP flag-bearer also cited an incident when Buhari reportedly said he did not know how the 2016 budget was stolen.
Calling on Nigerians to vote for him in the upcoming presidential election, Atiku, in a statement issued by his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, said “This president has exhibited gross incompetence, ignorance, poverty of ideas and lack of innovation.

“This president doesn’t know anything. They may have mentioned the plot to him but he does not remember anything!
“He didn’t know who stole the budget in 2016. He never knew his Chief of Staff was on the board of the NNPC.
“President Buhari never knew dead people were on the list of board appointments he signed.
“He never knew Abdulrasheed Maina of the pension scam incident was reinstated into the civil service.

“Mr. President was not aware that soldiers stormed the premises of Daily Trust newspapers. “What does this president know? In fact, I am so sure President Buhari is not aware he is contesting the February 16 election!
“The truth is that President Buhari never even intended to act as president for one day and this is one presidency that would be neither here nor there, everywhere and nowhere, visible yet ineffectual, present yet absentee in nature and action; all of which have lent further weight to the complaints of his wife that other people and not her husband are, indeed, in charge of Nigeria.

“A government which has been defined in the AtikuPlan to get Nigeria working again, will ensure that the interest, welfare, wellbeing and goodwill of all Nigerians will be at the centre of every action and decision of the leadership and not the interest and selfishness of two persons who have hijacked Nigeria for themselves at the expense and suffering of the rest of the people.
“The only politician now who has the capacity, capability, intelligence and experience to break this wicked hold of a few people on Nigeria is Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the formidable pan-Nigerian coalition of seasoned and tested leaders, who are now poised to liberate Nigeria from the cabal and open up the country to growth and development which two people have prevented President Buhari from achieving in his four years as Nigeria’s President, according to his wife.”

PDP reacts
Also, the PDP has rubbished Osinbajo’s claim, saying that the decision to arraign the top judiciary officer cannot be taken without the President’s input.
The party also said “Vice President Osinbajo’s assertion has also confirmed the claims by our First Lady, Aisha Buhari that a cabal has taken over the control of the Presidency, for which she forcefully called on Nigerians to take back their country.

“The PDP notes that the Buhari Presidency is only trying to sway public opinion on the matter following the outrage by Nigerians against the arraignment of the CJN.”
PDP also called on Nigerians to unite against the alleged move by Buhari’s government to clampdown on democratic institutions.

Facts have emerged on how the new Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu stopped the redeployment of the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi out of the state.

Former IGP Ibrahim Idris had redeployed Imohimi out of Lagos, and brought in Kayode Egbetokun as his replacement, but on his retirement on Tuesday, the new IGP stopped the redeployment.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Chike Oti said Imohimi is fully in charge as CP in Lagos, based on the order of the IGP.

“The Lagos State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the Inspector General of Police has graciously suspended the planned redeployment of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Edgal Imohimi, from the command.
“The IGP, in his wisdom, said the status quo should be maintained. The CP, who is well known for his discipline and respect for orders, was about handing over to Mr Kayode Egbetokun on Tuesday when he received the directive to suspend the ceremony and await further instructions,” he said.
Oti said the Police Command thought it necessary to inform the people of Lagos that Imohimi, going by this development, remained the head of the police in the state.
“While humbled by the decision, the CP wishes to assure the people of Lagos that their safety and security remains his priority,” he said.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has absolved his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari of pre-arranging the trial of Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen before the Code of Conduct Tribunal for non declaration of assets.
He said Buhari never had any fact of financial misdemeanor involving the CJN until Saturday evening.

According to the Vice President it is highly regretable that his senior colleague the CJN has to go through this process but that Buhari had issued specific instructions that anti-graft institutions be allowed to do their job without any interference.
Osinbajo gave this account on Wednesday, at a one day conference organised by Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN) with the theme: Free Press and Objective Reporting in the 2019 Election Year.
“I must tell you in clear terms that President Muhammadu Buhari, his whole approach is that institutions should just do their work, I can tell you for a fact that he did not even know about this until Saturday evening.

“He did not even know that there was going to be any kind of trial until Saturday evening, he has said categorically don’t interfere with whatever institutions are doing, sometimes it has consequences such as we have today, such that people say how can such an important person be subjected to trial without the Federal Government but I can tell you without any equivocation that he is not aware” Justice Onnoghen is facing trail over non declaration of assets with the Code of Conduct Bureau.

There are strong indications that four out of the seven Deputy Inspectors -General of Police in the Nigeria Police Force may leave the force alongside the former Inspector -General of Police, Ibrahim Idris , who retired on Tuesday .

It was gathered that the DIGs , who are members of the Police Management Team and senior to the acting IG , Mohammed Adamu , might be forced out of the service to pave the way for him to set up a new management team he could work with .

It was gathered that those that might be affected by the reorganisation include DIG Maigari Dikko in Charge of Department of Finance and Administration ; DIG Joshuak Habila , Department of Operations ; DIG Emmanuel Inyang , Information and Communications Technology ; and DIG Agboola Oshodi - Glover, Logistics and Supply Departments.

Police sources said that DIGs Mohammed Katsina ( Research and Planning Department ); Sani Mohammed ( Training and Development Department); and Peace Madueke -Abdallah ( Federal Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department ) who were promoted late last year could survive the impending purge of the Police Management Team .
A source stated, “ The three DIGs were on the same rank as Adamu last year . In fact , Abdallah was a Commissioner of Police the same time the acting IG was also a CP , so they were almost on the same level . By virtue of this fact , the new police boss may include them in his management team and save their career from sudden death . ”

It was gathered that Abdallah, who has about six years to retire , may be the worst casualty of the purge if Adamu decided to dispense with all the police management team members .
One of our correspondents further learnt that the decision to retain any of the PMT members rested on the acting IG, who is expected to write to the Police Service Commission about his chosen team members .
Acting IG reverses Idris ’ last -minute postings
Meanwhile , the new Police Chief has reportedly reversed some last -minute postings and redeployments carried out by Idris few days before his retirement .

R. Kelly probably didn’t count on cops banging down his door on Friday afternoon , but after an anonymous caller allegedly phoned Chicago police about an apparent hostage situation at the singer’s place, cops came out immediately.

It all started on Friday afternoon when an anonymous tip came in that Kelly was at his Trump Tower home and was allegedly holding two women there, both against their will.
(BTW, how sadly appropriate is it that Kelly lives at Trump Tower?! Ugh!)

Anyways, five officers barged into the home, according to TMZ , and confronted Kelly and the women — named as Joycelyn Savage and Azriel Clary — about whether they were being held against their will by the singer.

Both women apparently maintained that they were there voluntarily, and nothing illegal was going on; though others in their circle reportedly believe the women are being manipulated by Kelly, there was little for cops to do at that point.
Police left without incident — though things could have turned out very differently .
Regardless, it just goes to show how high tensions are right now around everything R. Kelly-related. Scary!!!

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Doyin Okupe, a spokesman of the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign organisation, over allegations of fraud.
The comission arraigned Okupe before a federal high court sitting in Abuja on Monday, on a 59-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering and diversion of funds to the tune of N702 million.

Okupe, who was a media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, was arraigned before Ijeoma Ojukwu, a judge, along with two companies – Value Trust Investment Ltd and Abrahams Telecoms Ltd.
One of the counts reads: “That you, Dr. Doyin Okupe, being the Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan from July 2012 to May 2015, and being the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, and a signatory to the bank account of Abrahams Telecoms Ltd, on or about the 3rd October, 2014 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, directly took possession or control of the sum of N35 million, transferred to the account of Abrahams Telecoms Ltd from the account of the Office of the National Security Adviser with the Central Bank of Nigeria purporting to be for special services when you reasonably ought to have known that the said fund formed part of the proceeds of an unlawful activity”.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges after which Tolu Babaleiye, his counsel, prayed the court to admit the defendant to bail.
Babaleiye urged the court to admit the defendant to bail on self recognizance adding that “he will not jump bail as he is well known”.
But Ibrahim Audu, prosecuting counsel, argued against the bail, saying “the defendant was given administrative bail after he volunteered his statement thereafter, he was nowhere to be found until December 2018 in Lagos”.
He also asked the court to take into consideration, “the gravity of the punishment in the event of conviction on the charges brought against the defendant”.

Thereafter, the judge granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100 million with one surety in like sum.
He said the surety must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court, and must have landed properties which must also be within the jurisdiction of the court, among other requirements.
The judge subsequently adjourned to February 27 for commencement of trial.

Chris Pratt , 39, and Katherine Schwarzenegger, 29, are getting married! The actor took to Instagram during the early hours of Jan. 14 to post a photo of himself and his fiancee cozied up together, and in the pic, she’s showing off her HUGE new rock. “Sweet Katherine, so happy you said yes!” he captioned the pic. “I’m thrilled to be marrying you. Proud to live boldly in faith with you. Here we go!”

There were no details of the proposal in the post, but Chris and Katherine DID just recently return from a New Year’s vacation with her family, so perhaps it went down while they were away?! This, of course, will be Chris’ second marriage — he was previously married to Anna Faris for eight years, but they announced they were separating in Aug. 2017. The exes have one son, Jack, 6, together, and have remained amicable after their split. They’ve even hung out together with their new significant others (Katherine and Anna’s boyfriend, Michael Barrett ).

Chris and Katherine first went public with their relationship in the spring of 2018, so they’ve been together for less than a year the time of this engagement . When you know you know, right?!

As for Katherine’s ring — it’s absolutely gorgeous! The oval-shaped rock rests on a thin band, and definitely stands out on her ring finger. We can’t wait to see these two walk down the aisle!

The Danladi Umar -led three - man Code of Conduct Tribunal on Monday adjourned proceedings involving the charges of non-declaration of assets preferred against the Chief Justice of Nigeria , Justice Walter Onnoghen, till January 22 .
Umar ruled that the tribunal would hear Onnoghen’ s motion challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal at the next proceedings .

The tribunal adjourned the case after the lead prosecuting counsel , Mr . Aliyu Umar ( SAN ) , conceded that Onnoghen was improperly served with the charges and the summons .
Umar conceded that the CJN was not personally served with the charges and the court ’ s summons , as required by the law .
He , therefore , requested the three -man tribunal led by Danladi Umar to direct a fresh service on the CJN .
Onnoghen was absent from the Monday ’ s proceedings .
Upon an inquiry by the tribunal chairman about Onnoghen’ s absence from court , the defence team led by Chief Wole Olanipekun ( SAN ) , said the CJN needed not to be present, having filed a motion to challenge the tribunal ’ s jurisdiction .

Olanipekun said he and other defence lawyers only appeared in court in protest against the jurisdiction of the tribunal.
He also said that , from the account given by the court official earlier in the proceedings , the CJN was not served with the charges and and summons personally , but through his aide .
Olanipekun insisted that the law requires that the defendant be served personally .
But the prosecuting lawyer said the law only requires the defendant to be aware of the pending charges , and that it was the CJN ’ s choice to ask his aide to receive the charges and summons on his behalf .
But after a back -and -forth argument that went on for about 45 minutes, the prosecuting counsel conceded that the service of the charges and the summons ought to have been personally served on Onnoghen

“ By what the registrar has said , although the defendant was the one who directed his personal assistant to accept service on his behalf and what the law says is that he must be personally served .
“ We agree that that the service should be properly done . The processes should be served personally on him.
“ If , after the service is done , and the defendant is not present , we can then argue whether or not he needs to be present on the grounds that he has filed a motion challenging the jurisdiction of the court . ”

But an associate of Ekweremadu , who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity over the issue on Friday, said the Deputy Senate President deliberately stayed away from the campaign of the party ’ s presidential candidate , Atiku Abubakar .

The source said Ekweremadu would not dissipate energy on a project that he was not considered worthy of playing any major role .
The source added, “ The Deputy Senate President was not given any specific assignment in the Atiku Presidential Campaign Council , which I think is wrong. It is not proper that the PDP did not assign any national role to him in its presidential campaign.

“ Ekweremadu was not even carried along when the PDP Presidential Campaign Council was constituted; he had no input at all . He also learnt of the composition , like other Nigerians , through the media . If Ekweremadu had not remained in the party , I doubt whether there would be any PDP to return to after the Supreme Court verdict that sacked the erstwhile national executive .
“ It is wrong to say that he should campaign alongside his principal who is the director-general of the campaign council ( Dr Saraki) . In any case, Ekweremadu was in Gombe State to campaign for Atiku . He is currently concentrating on the South -East , which is his own constituency . He is specifically focusing on how to deliver the South -East region. ”
The source added that it was wrong to insinuate that the South -East governors were not involved actively in the PDP presidential campaigns because they felt Ekweremadu had been sidelined .
He said, “ The truth of the matter is that the governors are also focusing on their own re -election . They will definitely show their power when the campaigns move to the South -East region.
“ Is it when the governors take flights to Sokoto and Bauchi for campaign rallies that will show Nigerians that they are working for Atiku ?”
Attempts to speak with Ekweremadu on the issue failed as of the time of filing this report . His Special Adviser on Media , Uche Anichukwu , had yet to respond to a text message sent to him.

But the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP , Mr Kola Ologbondiyan , on Saturday , said Ekweremadu was not being sidelined by the party .
He said the senator was active in the party ’ s structure and the PDP Presidential Campaign Council .
Ologbondiyan said , “ No cracks in the PDP . This is misinformation being peddled by the already rejected APC and its presidential candidate . They are seeking a way of creating voter apathy and giving the impression that we are not working together in the PDP .

“ We want to say that all is very well with the PDP . I just left the venue of a rally of our party in Plateau State. It was a grand rally and the whole city was emptied into the stadium . ”
